Many times in my life, I was implicitly taught to treat life like a lottery. If I guessed the correct numbers, I’d strike gold. If I bought enough tickets, I’d get my chance one day to live like a king. Aren’t the days of my life like lottery tickets?
The world teaches us to sit back and enjoy the show. It teaches us to live a copy of someone else’s life. Some people lust after things that others already have. They work to earn enough money to acquire these things. The money they spend sounds like a leaking faucet. It just never ends.
Why is it that we find pleasure in fanning the flames of insatiable desire?
I am still trying to decide if fame is a lottery or an auction. Do you magically get discovered? Some talented people do. However, I get this inkling that most people pay with their lives, bodies, faces or things to get to the top. The more she gives, the more she will get. You see, a lot of them squander their wealth. They live such empty lives that they need things, relationships or substances to keep themselves happy.
We are in a crisis today.
If the average person looks up to celebrities and the rich because of their lavish lifestyles, then his mind is programmed to desire the unattainable. He uses his days to aspire for what is obviously exceptional. He feeds his endless hunger for more. Why not use his days to do something that inspires him?
“I have a dream,” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said.
Well, I have a dream too. I dream that someday, the youth will break free from the pattern of this world. I dream that we will learn what it means to have integrity. I dream that we will inspire each other to do what inspires each of us. Oh, how beautiful that kingdom will be!
We face a new enemy today. Racial discrimination may not be as bad today but indifference is at its worst. Men are inherently self-seeking but we have the power to fight the darkness within us. I believe nothing is impossible if we stop clinging on to the chains that hold us back from our destiny. Let us not accept any compromise.
Live.
Live.
Live.
