It’s not easy being young. This is not even about studying calculus during wedding receptions. There were times in my life when I wished I could instantly be forty. I felt that way because there were older people who looked down on me. I wanted their respect. Of course, I’ve already ditched that perspective.

There were moments when I overheard people I thought I could trust speak badly against me because of my age and educational attainment. There were also instances when I was compared to others because they had more to show for in life. I’ve already let go of the ill feelings I harbored.

That’s my part. I’m free.

It has become common practice for executives to curse at the supposed incompetence of their subordinates. Most bosses are only friendly when the money is rolling in. These executives always assume that the people under them will stay there forever. I’m sure you’ve heard stories where roles were reversed.

Whatever happens, don’t be that evil boss and don’t pay evil for evil. To do so would be to embrace the normal. We have too much normal today. 

If I had to go through all the pain again, I would. That’s because all those experiences have led me to today. Some of you have told me that I have inspired you in one way or another. You know who you are. To touch one soul in this world is much better than a long and unremarkable existence.

The ones who have come before us will only grow older. They won’t change. They have gone through all sorts of misery. Most of them did not choose to let go of the hurt. 

This one thing I know, we are the light they need to see.
